Future Body Suits Will Ensure Sports Players Remain Cool

By B.J. Murphy

If you have wondered how far a fùtbol player runs in a single match, the answer might astound you: anywhere between 7 to 9.5 miles! Competitive sports truly requires its players to push their biological bodies to the limit, especially in terms of accommodating the massive amount of heat it soaks in. To ensure none of the sports players suffer from heat exhaustion, they must remain as cool and hydrated as possible.

For digital artist Shubhaya Sinha, she envisions a future where the very clothing these players wear help out in keeping their bodies cool.

“A personal project, designing a body suit for football players which enhances their body’s natural ability to stay cool while playing the sport. It is a combination of the human body’s natural ability and sophisticated material science used to conceptualize a body suit for Adidas.”

Whenever a player is running for long periods of time, the body attempts to self-regulate its temperature through the evaporation of sweat. There are six different spots throughout the body where the veins are close to the surface of the skin – they are known as superficial veins. Figuring out ways to exploit this could help the players in better regulation.

With Sinha’s Cooling Body Suit, this might just be a possibility. The suit itself would be developed using shape-shifting polymer fiber. Whenever the player sweats – specifically in those six given areas where the superficial veins are located – the suit’s material will open up to increase ventilation. As a result, this will increase evaporation and enhance the player’s ability to cool down the entire body.

For now, the Cooling Body Suit is merely a concept design. But as players continue pushing themselves, the more we’ll have to ensure they’re protected. These suits could very well be the answer.

FUTURE IMPLICATIONS

Sports players aren’t the only group of people who might benefit from temperature-regulating clothing. When you think about it, it would certainly have the potential market for nearly everyone who preside in areas or regions with high temperatures. In fact, as climate temperatures continue rising due to climate change, having clothing that’ll potentially accommodate these temperature increases will become all the more important over time. No person will ever have to die from heat exhaustion ever again. It’s not just a clothing revolution; it’s a health revolution!
