The Future This Week: NEO, GM Mosquitoes, and Artificial Animals

By B.J. Murphy

In The Future This Week, Serious Wonder wanders out into a cyberpunk landscape in search of this week’s headlines of the future, from genetically modified mosquitoes combating dengue to a documentary on the internationally growing Transhumanist movement. This week we’re given a glimpse of the future under multiple mediums: from the fictional perspective of a video game based in a somewhat distant cyberpunk world and the other from our nonfictional shores, whereby the animals swimming within might just be robotic.

Whether we’re transforming our own species using advanced science and technology or are transforming every other species which preside on this planet, we’re in for a future where nothing is what it seems and the concept of “impossibility” is quickly usurped by a world where anything and everything is possible. We’re in for a very strange ride, but it’s one that we’ll have to take together. Welcome to the future!
