Futuristic floating homes are on the horizon. What will our future be like when floating homes can easily cross oceans, walls and borders? Will access to homes that float and move freely about the planet cause nationalism to die a long overdue death? Probably not. But it would cause us to question the antiquated and primal idea of territory.
Wolke7 Future Flying House by designer Timon Sager gives us a vision of a futuristic floating home concept. What would it be like to live in the sky? Imagine only descending down to swim in the clear waters of the Maldives or “parking” your home beside the cliffs of Moher in Ireland. Sounds like real freedom to me.
No more nasty border control agents. “I don’t need no stinkin’ papers” the floating home owners will yell down from above. Of course, the early adopters of floating homes would be the elite 1%, so they may phrase it a bit more eloquently, but you get the idea.
The members and readers of SERIOUS WONDER are familiar with floating cities and floating car concepts. Aerial floating homes are the next logical step. Think of all the unused aerial real-estate! Will we be Earth bound in 2045? Will the word border exist in the future?
Floating homes could be a viable form of home ownership in the near future. Governments will need to consider how they will deal with semipermanent residents floating around their countries. Humanity has a long way to go before we could feel the freedom that futuristic technology like floating homes could provide. Our ignorance and fear keep us in these nationalistic borders. The only thing keeping humanity from living in a utopian future is us.
