Which is why I found it very interesting when I discovered that a new Cyborg religion, known as Nebtrion, had just formed. As a Transhumanist myself, I was interested in the fact that this new religion equally adhered to Transhumanism as well and even considered the opposition of science and technology to be a sin.
To find out more about this new religion, I decided to speak with its co-founder, whom wishes to remain anonymous for now, only going by the alias “Data 99”. Below is a transcript of our conversation.
Q: Hello Data 99. It’s a pleasure to meet you. So I’m quite fascinated, to say the least, of this new Cyborg religion that you’ve devised, known as Nebtrion. But firstly, what can you tell us about yourself and what is it that inspired you to start an entirely new religion?
A: Yes, hello B.J. Thank you very much for showing interest in Nebtrion. For the sake of the length of this interview and the audience’s attention, I have to be incredibly vague on my origins and more descriptive on the religion of Nebtrion. To start off, I’m just a person who has been interested in the ideas and technology of Transhumanism for a while and decided to create a serious religion for people who think like me, if there are any.
I got into a fairly nasty car accident some years ago and questioned how many times can I have these accidents before the next one becomes my last accident. Why should anyone have to go through that or even worse scenarios, because that’s just how society works right now? I now don’t believe in putting certain behaviors, no matter how entertaining, traditional, or beautiful, above our survival and above pure technological progression. The religion spawned from origins concerning the current epidemic of anti-intellectualism, valuable truths, survivalist thinking, transhumanism, false futurist and religious predictions, and so on. People often just don’t care about filtering out entertainment and false information when I suggest it.
I just want to survive, but I don’t want to become an angry militant about it like others seem to be describing me as. I just want access to radical technology for me and my people. I just see everyone as so unnecessarily conservative now, but still have respect for people that don’t believe in Nebtrion. I just think differently. Though I’m not in obvious total agreeance with their methods, I have always felt very close to the Borg, Patriot A.I. from Metal Gear, and the Omar from Deus Ex. I felt compelled to eventually filter out false information, conspiracy, anti-tech memes, entertainment, aesthetics, and so on. I’m not going to write a book explaining to people why I believe in this filtering; I am just going to do it at this point. It’s obvious this is too irrational for many people, but it’s rational for followers of Nebtrion. I have reached my logical conclusion and don’t have time for debate, nor should any other Nebtrion follower.
Why do we continue behaviors or even philosophically justify them just because they are the current trend, entertaining, artistic, or beautiful? Everything for us relates back to survival, even if we are wrong. It’s what we have faith in – in Nebtrion. Certain behaviors or memes are only getting in the way of a more powerful and safer existence. All of my faith is in technological progression, not society. Hard science, time management, filtering, valuable truths, and technology are the goals now. It morphed itself into a spiritual enlightenment for me. I accepted this new mindset as this spiritual guide, and as of October I decided to establish it as a serious religion.
Transhumanists that think like me should consider leaving this planet or paving a path of future generations with our mindset to get a chance to leave. Even if it takes hundreds of years to achieve our method of transport, it would be worth it. We should value the idea of peace, but also see that we cannot function at our greatest potential in this current meme and diverse clashing of society.
I believe the more brains, the more processing power we put collectively into technology alongside computers, the better we will advance. Be a machine of progression and resist the urges of our current nature. Use science and technology to reconfigure our mind to think in terms of pure, practical technological progression. To do this will also require a new spiritual mindset. Sure, people have certain developed skills and natural talents, but the mind is fairly flexible. How many intelligent and technoprogressive people are going to continue to spend time, money, and energy on making fancy toys and do things like put magnets in our fingers? Sensory expansion is important, but longevity and protection is of higher importance as of right now.
Get a higher or more quality education in things such as nanotechnology or biological life extension. Invest money into these, not things you don’t need. Why are you surprised that the future that you wanted isn’t here every decade? A major factor is that we spend time on things that we shouldn’t, even if that thing is peaceful hedonism. This is all general though and I don’t want to engulf the interview in this.
Q: There are already several different Transhumanist-oriented religions that are in place today, from the Mormon Transhumanist Association, to the Christian Transhumanist Association, to Terasem, to The Turing Church. How do you plan on differentiating Nebtrion from the rest of these Transhumanist religions?
A: While I will have to possibly adopt some of their methods to help fund our areas of interest, Nebtrion is about longevity, technological progression, and filtering. I’d say filtering is where we differentiate the most in comparison to the other transhumanist-oriented religions. Also we are not showing faith towards or worshiping deities, or showing lack. We are rather unconcerned with putting energy into these philosophical debates. We should have faith in the ideas of pure technological survivalist progression, hard sciences, and filtering. We want our members to get directly into the field of the hard sciences. We will have to do more for team projects and funding.
Nebtrion isn’t about good versus evil, purpose or lack of it, deities or lack of them, morals, love, and fear. We worship survival in the face of all these other beliefs. We are not trying to get into an afterlife, become Gods, find God, or even create our own Gods. We sacrifice hedonism to prevent even the slightest possibility of universal end. Time is constantly running out to us. We focus on maintaining the state of foundation that provides all of the other behaviors to the infinity, the foundation being the fabric of the universe. As long as the foundation of our existence is not changed in opposition of supporting advanced consciousness or destroyed, any other concepts that follow after are secondary. There’s so much evidence out there that is suggesting that the universe is ending. Nebtrion is about trying to use advanced technology to continue the universe or survive its change. We care only so much about society’s self-destruction. They have their freedom. We only wish to survive their choices or isolate from them. Of course, we must be involved in this current society until we are more capable of isolating.
We may be the only intelligent life of our kind and we must prevent Metaversal end. Change history and time in the favor of continuing current consciousness if technology, natural laws, and intellect allow it. We figure that even if technology keeps progressing, people will still continue acts of hedonism we don’t want to embrace. We don’t hate it, we want to transcend it. We try to put peace and freedom at a high level even though we believe
“If charity is helpful, and it is, then it should definitely be considered in the future to supplement our goals of technological progression, longevity, and defense/exploration of the Metaverse.”

Longevity and survival is just a tool to achieve our goals, because we cannot directly pass down all information and memes into offspring and trust that they will agree with the ways of Nebtrion. So the original members must continue to exist in some form, but preferably original subjective consciousness or in a collective consciousness hive mind of sorts. This is more of the detailed goals of the Nebtrion religion. I am just the starting voice of it as well, not the dictator. The core elements will stay, but members may decide how it will bend within society’s standards, whatever the current or future standards of getting resources and education might be. There are really only two of us behind the religion currently, but who knows how many might be willing to accept its beliefs in the future. Our job was to establish the base idea for it; hopefully others can contribute more strategies to fulfill Nebtrion’s ways. We can only do so much as two people. We also do not have all the money in the world obviously. Perhaps a sentient A.I. will join Nebtrion in the future.
Q: You note in the description of Nebtrion that “technological progression, longevity, and defense/exploration of the Metaverse are our only concerns we should have.” Given the fact that certain religions are known for their work in charity, does Nebtrion have any plans on pushing charities which benefit scientific and technological fields such as biohacking and/or anti-aging medical research?
A: Not currently, but if Nebtrion is able to get to that point, of course. The core has been established but Nebtrion is fluid. If charity is helpful, and it is, then it should definitely be considered in the future to supplement our goals of technological progression, longevity, and defense/exploration of the Metaverse. The Nebtrion way is so scary and unrealistic to people that even charities won’t bring support. I am really concerned about more of Nebtrion’s followers to get into the fields of emerging survivalist technologies and life extension and just wait until we have enough post-human tech and exploration vehicles to escape. No one is going to be willing to accept giving up entertainment, comedy, arts, etc. for technological progress. There is a tidal wave of radical technology coming in the next decade and you honestly might have to be on one end or the other. Hopefully humans make the right choice.
Q: Something else I’d like to ask about your tenets. It mentions that Nebtrion considers romance and sex to be a sin. Subsequently, Nebtrion is against hedonistic behaviors (which can arguably include sex, drugs, etc.). Might I ask why this is? After all, sex has been shown to acquire a plethora of benefits to a person’s health, not to mention our Transhuman future will likely give birth to an entirely new venue of technological sex.
A: Yes, Nebtrion sees that the current health benefits will not outweigh the health benefits provided by products of radical technological progression. Also, the nature associated with sex is not worth the focus of work ethic and filtering that we can do in place of sex. Though it provides benefits, it’s an easy way out. We still die even when these health benefits occur.
We will begin to have less of a desire and need for sex as we find more powerful ways to benefit health that sex alone cannot provide. We do embrace health, but the health is the thing that is important, not the ideas of beauty and purpose associated from sex, at least to Nebtrion. Drugs, on the other hand, are very complex. If there is a powerful nootropic out there, then of course it would be desired. We are against drugs that aren’t very valuable in the realm of performance enhancing.
I also understand the depths that transhumanism will bring to sex, but for the Nebtrion it’s just another thing we have to filter for time management. We feel that, just because sex helps define humanity, doesn’t justify it to remain as a part of us. If we can get everything sex offers and more, then sex is an irrelevant distraction to other things we could be putting practicality into.
Q: What are your hopes for Nebtrion? As we exponentially march towards a Transhumanist future, of which will acquire an entirely new sub-human species, such as Cyborgs and the genetically enhanced (whom I refer to as Bio-Cybs), will Nebtrion play a certain role in either defending or enhancing this future?
A: Like I mentioned before, the goal is to escape if society hinders us. We will help defend those who think the most similar to us first naturally. Nebtrion is about bringing radical technology into the world, but protecting ourselves to protect the Metaverse is most desirable. My question is, will society allow the continuing defense and enhancing of this future?
Q: In terms of religion, Nebtrion definitely appears to be an atheistic religion. It attains secular values and strongly emphasizes against superstitious belief. And yet you acquire a set of strongly held beliefs. How do you expect the world will respond to Nebtrion’s presence, especially from those ancient religions whom are non-Transhumanist by nature?
A: Good question. Nebtrion doesn’t have time to debate higher powers, it’s against our beliefs; we blame people for their own actions. We attain values that aren’t a distraction to technological progress. We are just another part of the wave that is to come. Nebtrion is as serious a religion as theirs. Even transhumanists have displayed much opposition to our beliefs, so I can only imagine the non-transhumanists people to be even more in opposition. Hopefully, violence won’t be their preferred method of debate, but we will be prepared.
Q: Finally, like everyone else we speak to whom we ask, is there any final message or advice that you’d like to give to Serious Wonder’s readers?
A: Yes, consider hearing all possibilities of the future and transhumanism. Question everything, even your entertainment, art, emotions, and so on. Don’t let one person define the transhumanist movement, protect yourself from violent extremists, and stay healthy.
Thank you for this opportunity. I do apologize for being so vague or that I bounced a lot around. Maybe you will hear about us in the future. We will see how things go. Hopefully I became a voice for people who seriously and often think in similar ways to the beliefs of Nebtrion. I won’t quit until Nebtrion is fulfilled.
