Nissan’s goal: to revolutionize the relationship between cars and drivers. When: if everything goes right, expect your futuristic, autonomous, smart vehicles to emerge sometime by the 2020s.
“A key point behind the Nissan IDS Concept is communication. For autonomous drive to become reality, as a society we have to consider not only communication between car and driver but also between cars and people. The Nissan IDS Concept’s design embodies Nissan’s vision of autonomous drive as expressed in the phrase together, we ride.”
– Mitsunori Morita, Design Director
“Nissan Intelligent Driving improves a driver’s ability to see, think and react. It compensates for human error, which causes more than 90 percent of all car accidents. As a result, time spent behind the wheel is safer, cleaner, more efficient and more fun.”
– Carlos Ghosn, President and CEO of Nissan
When the owner of the vehicle is near it, the Nissan IDS Concept will know who you are and will welcome you at your arrival. Using the same smart sensors, which wrap around the entire vehicle, if any car, biker, or passerby were to cross near the IDS Concept, your vehicle will make all the necessary calculations in an instant and respond accordingly in the safest and most efficient manner.
In terms of manual driving, the Nissan IDS Concept will heavily rely on its smart sensors and A.I. communications system. We’re not just talking about a communicative relationship between a car and its drivers, but an enhanced form of intelligent communication between cars and people as a collective!
So much more is needing to be said of the Nissan IDS Concept, but thankfully the above video does an amazing job at capturing the imagination of viewers. Nissan has truly provided a concept car that strongly resonates the futuristic aesthetic it wishes to convey. It represents the car that we’ve always dreamed of and one which automobile manufacturers around the world wished they’d have thought of first (Tesla Motors being the exception, of course). From its autonomous driving, to its A.I. communications system, to its zero emission accountability, the IDS Concept is most certainly the car of the future!
