For Japanese multinational corporation Sharp, however, they’ve just unveiled their latest smartphone which will completely redefine both “mobile” and “smart”. Say hello to RoBoHoN!
“RoBoHoN is a phone you have never seen before. A phone in human shape. A phone that you feel like talking to. A phone that also wants to know you. To hear what you hear, to see what you see, to share the same dreams. That is little RoBoHoN’s big dream.”
– Sharp Corporation
As for RoBoHoN’s specs, it stands at approximately 19.5 cm (7.7 inches) and weighs 390 grams (0.85 lbs). It contains a 3G LTE network with Wi-Fi and 1.2GHz quad-core. And lastly, it has a 2 inch display screen on its back. Sharp Corporation first demonstrated RoBoHoN at the Ceatec electronics show on Tuesday just outside of Tokyo. Whether or not RoBoHoN pans out to be a successful smartphone is yet to be determined, but has a launch date for sometime next year.
It’s certainly debatable whether RoBoHoN will be the next big step for smartphones – a more accurate projection has phones in general becoming wearable devices and, eventually, woven into the very fabric of our biological substrate – but it’s certainly a revolutionary step for robotics! RoBoHoN is the robot that a lot of people have been waiting for, taking up multiple tasks that’ll definitely make a person’s daily life a lot easier.
Then again, it’s only a small glimpse for what’s to come in our near future for the robotics industry. Eventually robots will be more than an oversized, walking, dancing smartphone. They’ll be cleaning our homes, walking our dogs, and having meaningful conversations with us. Take a good, long look at RoBoHoN, because its future replacements will be larger, more versatile, and much more intelligent!
