As we move into the Singularity we will be forced to ask questions we have ignored for way too long. What does it mean to be human? What does technology want from us? If the universe is a digital organism or simulation, could technology be a defense mechanism for the larger organism?
According to DEADLINE:
“MGM has acquired rights to make a feature out of Abe, a short film by British writer/director/VFX artist Rob McLellan. McLellan will write and direct the feature about a robot serial killer, and Kevin Misher and Steve Tzirlin will produce it. Jonathan Glickman and Cassidy Lange will oversee for MGM and Andy Berman and Kevin Chang will oversee for Misher Films, which produced the Kimberly Peirce-directed Carrie for MGM and Screen Gems and is prepping a reboot of The Crow for Relativity. Tzirlin is producing Ruin at Fox with Maze Runner helmer Wes Ball. McLellan is repped by APA, Caliber Media, and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.”
Will second or third stage A.I. robots become so advanced that they ignore their program and begin to make autonomous choices? What happens when these machines become self aware? Humanity would be wise to wake up and start thinking about these questions now.
