This might seem like an idea that would be opposed by the general populace, but surprising enough, tens of thousands have already willingly registered their drones. How many drones are we talking about here? According to the FAA:
“The agency has seen strong initial demand, with more than 45,000 registrations completed by the close of business on Tuesday… According to industry estimates, as many as 400,000 small UAS could be sold during the holidays.”

Because of their increasing popularity, in just a few short years our airspace will become the home of an entire fleet of delivery drones. From food to medications, delivery drones will become one of the more popular methods of delivery services. Which is why the FAA believes that it’s absolutely crucial that users begin registering their drones and why they’re working with NASA to construct a brand new tracking system specifically for drone delivery services. If you thought drones were a big deal today, just you wait for next year!
FUTURE IMPLICATIONS
During the holidays, especially those involving gift-giving, I can imagine that drones will become an extremely popular gift-giving tool during the holiday seasons. After all, who needs Santa Claus when you have drones!? In fact, they’ll be readily available to you even after the holidays. Meaning Santa Claus might become the next victim of technological unemployment. I don’t think he’ll mind though. Just think of it this way: ole’ Saint Nick be liberated from the yearly monotonous task of providing gifts to every good boy and girl (and other non-binary gender identities). Happy holidays, everyone!
